There are many benefits to having a professional valuation done on an item of jewellery that is important to you:
Some Insurance companies will not provide you with full compensation for an expensive piece of Jewellery unless you can prove its value.
A jewellery Valuation acts as proof of ownership.
If you would ever like to sell your jewellery, an assessment of your piece is based on a specific market value and this can ensure you receive a fair price for your goods.
The Valuation provides you a detailed description of your item along with a picture, which is invaluable if you ever decide to have the piece remade.
Having an expert assess and appraise your items can help prove that the piece you have purchased is a genuine or a valuable as the seller claimed.

The question should be "Why would you risk using someone who isn't"?
Only members of the National Council of Jewellery Valuer's are entitled to call themselves an NCJV Registered Valuer™.
This means that NCJV Valuers are experts in their profession and have undertaken many courses and had extensive training in the fields of Gemmology, diamond grading and Valuing.
Tertiary qualifications in jewellery valuation are not required under Australian law so there is no guarantee that Valuer's who are not NCJV members have received professional training.
-
You can do a quick search on the current NCJV website go to the 'Find a Valuer' search engine and type in the name of Valuer you are enquiring about.
Alternatively you can ask to see their current membership certificate.
When you receive a valuation or if you have one in your possession the certificate should be embossed with the NCJV red seal which will have the name and current year.

When your jewellery is being assessed by a Valuer it is scientifically examined by many different instruments and a value is defined by extensive current market research.
As Carina is a mobile valuer, she can come to see you at a location that is most suited to you for your convenience.
Assessments can sometimes be undertaken in the convenience of your own home, however a full scientific examination cannot be undertaken in a matter of minutes and Carina will more than most likely need to take the item with her to perform the full analysis and then return to you within a 1-2 week time frame.

Yes, you will receive a copy of an NCJV 'Take In Form' which will state a description of goods taken and the purpose of the Valuation to be completed.
You will be required to read the terms and conditions and sign that the item has been left with the valuer, in which they will also sign as an agreement from both parties.
-
As there are several different types of Valuations they also have differing cost's. If you would like or require more information on the costs of different types of Valuations, please email Carina with photos attached so an approximate quote can be provided.

Photos and Videos are great to gauge an idea of the item that will need to be assessed, however it is not possible to Value items without them being sited and extensively examined. To avoid any types of possible theft or insurance fraud cases items must physically be in a Valuers hand to be given a fair assessment, and to have a certificate produced.

Valuations should be updated frequently and recommended to be updated every 2-3 years as Values on items do fluctuate. Some insurance companies may request or advise that you keep your Valuations up-to-date to ensure that your item has the correct cover and that you are fully insured.
